Fight With Fire-Sept 17th 2010

My friend, Josh Jackson, has organized an event to benefit those affected by the Nashville Floods this past May, as a part of United Way Nashville’s Flood Relief “Restore The Dream”.

Because of my close friendship with Josh, as well as the bands that are playing the event, and along with the fact that Radical Notion is a part of the Nashville community, I thought we should devote some space on our blog to help promote the benefit.

This coming Friday, September 17th the show will be happening in Nashville at The End. 100% of the proceeds of the show go to aiding United Way’s flood relief centers throughout the Nashville area. Those who make a donation at: http://unitedwaynashville.org/fire are put on the guest list, and get to enjoy some free goodies provided by the sponsors (see below), such as a free beer to the first 50 people to show up.

Nashville Flood

It’s been an intense and surreal moment in Nashville for the past week. Never seen anything like this here. Such an incredible amount of flooding – areas which are never subject to any kind of flooding became lakes and rivers.

I feel incredibly lucky that I came out unscathed. A few of my friends did have some property damage, however. And one of my friends was trapped in their home with no power for a few days. But even these episodes seem minor when I’ve heard about or seen pictures of how the flooding has effected others. Homes, businesses, property, and lives have been lost.

But what they are saying about the Nashville community coming together is true. Everyone has jumped in to lend help throughout the crisis. People in this community don’t wait until a crisis is over to get involved, they start acting as it happens. It is quite a unique group of people here.

Benefits and ways to help
There are a number of organizations providing relief. And this being a music town, naturally many of our local performing and recording artists have come together to raise several million dollars for these organizations already. Here’s where you can contribute:
