The Radical Notion (independent media) company blog

It’s taken far too long to follow through on a promise that I made months ago… in December of 2008… I’ve got all kinds of excuses as to why it has taken this long to launch the Radical Notion blog, but you’re not here to read excuses. You’re here to connect.

And that’s exactly what I hope to accomplish through this new blog. I hope that we can develop a two-way dialogue which spills over into a physical, offline, face-to-face relationship. I hope that we teach each other things. I hope we share ideas. I hope we share creativity. I hope the dialogue proves to be interesting and entertaining for everyone. And I hope that we create a true culture around the common lifestyle that we’ve all chosen to identify with.

Here’s a few points of business to give us some direction. This stuff will likely end up as part of the about page, or something similar, but I’ll post here as well so it’s easy to find for the early subscribers.

This blog is ours. It belongs to the tribe. I hope we all take pride in it, and I hope we all take pride in the tribe. That being said, we’re going to have to clarify a few things:

  • The blog belongs to the tribe in the sense that everyone who participates gets to have a voice, and gets to exercise their privilege of freedom of expression.
  • The blog belongs to the tribe in the sense that everyone takes part in building this blog, and gets to take credit for their contribution in that regard.
  • When it comes to intellectual property, as it relates to the design of the blog, the content of the blog, etc, etc, that belongs to Radical Notion (independent media).
  • When it comes to intellectual property, as it relates to music or other content that will get posted here, in which Radical Notion (independent media) is not the rights holder, that belongs to the proper original owner.
  • This blog will have to be moderated, and responsibility falls on the tribe leader, Radical Notion (independent media), as well as whoever is the acting editor, which at this time is stinson (me!). The tribe leader, and the acting blog editor reserve the right to make the final judgement in what is deemed appropriate or inappropriate for this blog, and promise to use this power responsibly, and in the best interest of the tribe.
  • The basics of the point above: no pornography, no blatant disrespect towards others exercising their right for freedom of expression, and no spam. The tribe’s common sense and good judgement should be sufficient in figuring this stuff out.
  • Throughout the time this blog is online (which hopefully is a very long time), it will be particularly dynamic and organic, and as it matures will likely require the further direction and focus of these points. Specifics will likely need to be refined and adjusted from time-to-time around here. That responsibility will fall upon the tribe leader.

The main topics explored here will be New Media, New Marketing, music and the music industry, creativity, art, and the company news of Radical Notion (independent media). The purpose of the blog is to share ideas in order to learn from one another. Sometimes this will come in the form of how-to or advice, sometimes this will come in the form of an open discussion, and sometimes it will come in the form of sharing links and commentary on someone else’s idea expressed on another blog or website. But it will always come in the form of two-way education. Explicitly, learn by teaching, and learn by doing, which is a principle that we try to live our lives by at Radical Notion (independent media). We’re seeking to learn from the tribe as much as we’re seeking to share our ideas. Lastly, but certainly not least, the purpose of this blog is to also have fun! We hope to create and participate in the production of entertaining works of art.

So here it is. We did it. We launched the official blog for Radical Notion (independent media). Congratulations to the tribe, and thank you for bringing this blog to life. And yes, although it is a part of our official company name, the (independent media) part can be implied…
